"All the world's a stage we pass through." - R. Ayana
Current thinking in physics is that we live in an 11-dimensional (mem)brane in which the well-known 3D world and time itself are embedded. Real time/space travel would have to relate to a minimum of those four dimensions - using more dimensions again.
'Modern' physics doesn't have an explanation of these other dimensions in the 11-dimensional membrane - but consider that any 'hyperspace' connecting with this dimension would have the property if interacting with all points simultaneously - as the 4D universe familiar to most of the senses is a cross-section of any 'higher order' space.
Gravity and time both fulfil this criterion - they interact with matter/energy, apparently exerting a 'force' that inexorably enters every body and particle simultaneously from 'without'. For that matter, height, depth and breadth do as well - along with magnetism, electricity, and another four relatively familiar 'forces' as well.
Timespace travel requires a high degree of fine-tuning of these fields.

Well, ur, actually... our universe is considered to be a 3 or 4 dimensional
brane floating down a tubelike 11 dimensional hyperspace, with the 11th
dimension being infinitely long. Well, according to one idea of M theory.
I've heard that there's an estimated 10^500 possible solutions to M-theory.
