The world we live in is run to suit the economy. Most of our popularly exploited technology is fifty years old (at least).

There ARE solutions to the crises facing us all. The whole nuclear fuel cycle, however, must be considered - making the nuclear 'option' no option at all. Do you know how the world 'disposes' of nuclear waste - which can last up to BILLIONS of years? It doesn't, unless you consider the fact that the US and its allies fire it ('depleted' uranium) at their enemies, destroying those countries as habitable flaces FOREVER.
Extraordinary how short-sighted people are and how ignorant their governments choose to make them. Almost ALL the US veterans from the first gulf war are on medical pensions - most suffering from the permanent effects of radiation poisoning. The combatants in today's wars - and their spouses - are almost all doomed to short, painful lives. They are, after all, expendable cogs in an overpopulated money machine to those who would have you use their poisons to destroy your own lives.
The background radiation level on Earth has risen between 200 and 2000 percent since WW2, depending on where you measure it. Is it a surprise that ONE THIRD of the population gets cancer now? This was not the case before the 'superpowers' irradiated the ecosystem.
In Australia the nuclear tests DID cause many casualties - just ask the Pitjantjara, for example - and radioactive clouds notoriously affected even the eastern cities as well as many small towns. There was a Royal Commission into all this - how short the memory of humans is! How easily exploitable!
But the nuclear cycle is even more subtle than that. Don't go to Byron Bay, for instance, where radioactive sand mining refuse (for titanium for Trident nuclear submarines) has created hotspots of 300 TIMES normal background - and I have personally measured this.
Most people are mushrooms, I suppose, but there's no reason to swallow the crap that industrialists dish out to us through their lawyer/liar mouthpieces - politicians.
